Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to present the exercise training for the improvement of immune function in the elderly people. The increased life span in human population has shown that some diseases such as infection, cancer and auto immune phenomena, occur more frequently in the elderly people. Immunosenescence is associated with thymus involution, cancer and infectious diseases, as the decrease of naive T cells, the numbers of CD4+ and CD8+. Also, elevation of plasma level of TNF-¥á, IL-6, IL-1ra and sTNF-r is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Exercise training may help the immune system function better and accelerate-wound healing in elderly people. Regular moderate physical activity may reduce symptoms; in contrast, heavy acute or chronic exercise may increase the infectious diseases. Therefore, the improved immune function of the elderly people by regular 16 week or 6 month long-term exercise program with moderately aerobic and resistance exercise will be helpful.
